The Rags to Riches blog’s debuted today to much fanfare over on the NTRA site. The first post entitled “Creature of Habit” says more about the people behind the blog as it says about horses being creatures of habit that prefer routine in their daily lives.
Rags isn’t the only creature of habit living in this predictable bit of sentimental schlock impersonating a blog. Don’t expect any spontaneity or insights about Todd and Team Pletcher. Just more of the same, things most racing fans already know that have been repeated in the press ad nauseum. It reads more like a lovesick teenager’s diary than a blog, overly sentimental with no rough edges and absolutely no spelling or punctuation errors. It reeks with the kind of sentiment you have to pay for in a Hallmark card.
I am sure that if Rags could speak, the first thing she would do is fire Pletcher’s PR people. As a blogger you might think I would be pleased to see the NTRA follow the example of the DRF, the Bloodhorse and Churchill Downs and jump on the blog bandwagon but after my first read of the Rags blog I don’t wonder about the growing popularity of alternatives like the Thoroughbred Bloggers Alliance at least we are not creatures of habit.
In the Rags blog they say you’d better come prepared with some peppermints if you plan on changing her routine. I suggest you come prepared with some caffeine pills if you plan to continue reading the Rags blog.
